Friday Food Bites: Galaxy Coffee launches, Crafted Culture Brewing headed

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • The city’s first queer-owned coffee truck, The Galaxy Coffee, makes its debut tomorrow (Saturday, June 25) at Virtue Salon in Clintonville, at 3282 N. High St. The truck features coffee from Upper Cup, pastries from Pattycake and Happy Little Treats. Going forward it’ll be parked Thursdays-Saturdays at Virtue, as well as appearing at other spots around the city.
  • Crafted Culture Brewing, the first black-owned brewery in central Ohio, announced it will make a permanent home at 189 E. Main St. downtown, in the new Harlow building. Crafted Culture had previously set up operations in the former Kindred Ales space in Gahanna, now host to Heart State Brewing. An opening date for Crafted Culture downtown hasn’t been set.
  • Hot Chicken Takeover announced that it would open a location at 8715 Owenfield Dr. in Lewis Center, its fifth in central Ohio.
  • J’s Sweet Treats debuted its new stall at the Greater Columbus Convention Center this week in the South Cafe Marketplace.
  • Junkyard Dogs, a new venture from the owner of Borgata Pizza Cafe and Jerry Elliott from QFM96, soft opened this week at 2245 W. Dublin Granville Rd. in Linworth.
  • Blackbird Kitchen, which operates out of Woodland’s Tavern in Grandview, will host a small market this Sunday, June 26 from 1-4 p.m. There will be food and drink specials, plus local vendors selling sauces, baked goods, crafts, and more.
  • The owners of The Shrunken Head in Victorian Village announced this week that they’d be closing up after end of business this Saturday, June 25.
  • Wizard of Za in Clintonville announced this week that it has started offering delivery.
  • 614 shared this week that a new members-only bourbon bar called Private Barrel is coming to 1586 S. High St., former site of Geordie’s Restaurant.
  • A festival celebrating hard seltzers, called Seltzerland, is coming Saturday, July 30 at Field.
