To Makeblack Urad Dal Vada

Black Urad Dal – 1 Cup
Raw Rice – 1/4 Cup
Chopped Ginger
Green Chilli – 1 No.
Salt – 1 Tsp
Water
Onion – 1/2 No.
Pepper – 1 Tsp
Curry Leaves
Oil

Method:

1. Soak the back urad dal and raw rice in water for 6 hours in two separate bowls.
2. Transfer the soaked rice and urad dal to a mixer jar along with chopped ginger, green chillies and salt.
3. Grind them all once and add in some water. Grind it all into a thick, coarse batter.
4. Add the chopped onions, crushed pepper and curry leaves.
5. Mix it all well and keep the batter aside.
6. Pour enough oil for deep frying in a kadai.
7. Once the oil is hot, take the batter into palms and make vadas by dabbing a little water as shown in the video.
8. Gently drop the prepared vadas into the kadai and fry them until they are golden brown on all sides on a medium flame.
9. After the vadas are done, transfer them onto a kitchen towel paper and then serve them hot with any chutney of your choice by the side.

Urad dal is considered to be extremely healthy and probably that’s why most of our traditional foods involve urad dal in them. If you also notice, our previous generations used to have less polished grains/lentils. I believe that it is the reason why they were so healthy and strong for a long time. Inspired from the same, I have made vadas with whole urad dal, This is also served as prasadam in a lot of temples. So in this video, you can watch the complete process of making these black skin urad dal vadas and try them because they are also very tasty.
